Hey Guys!
I'm still a little confused on the function of the spongy layer. I always forget that one for some reason. If anyone has a trick to remember it can they share it with me? Thanks

Hi Guys!
Today in class we reviewed all of our labs before taking the lab quiz. Everyone had some great questions and that helped me greatly on the quiz. Next we took the plant quiz. For the quiz we wrote down our answers from thee questions that were projected on the board. After everyone was done with the quiz we covered pollination and took notes on it.

Here are some key points to remember about pollination:

>Their are many types of pollination consisting of self pollination, cross pollination, wind pollination, and vector pollination

>Self pollination-Very efficient, fertilizes the same plant.
>Cross pollination-Efficient,fertilizes another plant.
>Wind pollination-Not efficient, needs high production of pollen.
>Vector pollination-More efficient than wind pollination, produces less pollen.

We also learned the three steps of fertilization:
1. Pollen lands on stigma.
2. Pollen tube grows into the style.
3. Sperm and egg unite forming a zygote

Hw-FINISH PROJECT!!!
Study for pod quiz and unit test
Finish all the reading from up3 by test time

Class 11/18/11

Hi Guys!

Today in class we did another lab on the structure of DNA, although this time we focused on protein synthesis. In this lab we started with a regular strand of DNA and the completed the process of Transcription and Translation. The DNA would successfully be made into RNA and be attached to a a ribasome. Many amino acids would be produced and mRNA would carry the newly produced protein out into the nucleous.

I'm sorry I couldn't upload pictures my phone is really old and I don't have the software.

Anyway we have alot of homework this weekend so make sure to get it all done!

Hey Everyone!

Today in class Mrs.Stein checked in our homework and gave us a stamp. She went over the answers with us before we discussed the disease of the day. First, we finished Schistosomiasis from yesterday. This disease is vector born and associated with snails. It affects the urinary system. The disease of the day was Influenza. It is caused by a RNA virus. Since the flu is a virus the best way to treat it is to prevent the spread of it.

At the end of the day we set up two labs that we will be doing on Monday. In the first lab we tested three surfaces. We then swabbed the cue tip on its proper quadrant on a dish. On Monday we will be looking for bacteria in these quadrants. In the second lab we put three antibiotics in the agar. We will observe the effects of the antibiotics.

Muddiest Point

The topic that I am most struggling with in unit one is density dependent limiting factors. I know that density dependent limiting factors operate strongly when the population density reaches a certain level. I also know that they include competition predation and herivory. I don't understand why this matters. Why do people need to know about this and how does this affect us? So, please help me out with this topic.
Thanks, SamC

First Post

Hi Mrs. Stine this is my first post to our classroom blog. I wanted to talk a little about me and what I like to do. In my free time I like to hang out with my friends and play sports. My favorite sport is hockey and I am curerently on the Glenbrook South junior varsity team. I have been playing since I was four years old and I can't wait for the season to start on Monday. I also enjoy spending time with my family because they are very important to me. I am also looking forward to spending the rest of the year in your class because to me, biology is an enjoyable subject. I look forward to all of the fun events and activities that high school will bring me, and I am happy to finally be a part of it.
