Muddiest Point

The number one thing I really don't understand at all is what exactly are antigens. I under stand that antibodies attach to the antigens but I never quite understood what antigens actually are.

  1. Antigens are like the "bad guys". They're on the outside of bacteria, parasites, or viruses and their presence kind of signals the immune system and lets it know that a "foreign substance" has come into the body. Then, because of that, the immune system starts to produce more cells to help and attack the bad guys directly or make antibodies to destroy them.
    Hope this helps!!
