Muddiest Point

Hey Guys so I'm a bit confused on what the Palisade layer does in the leaf and also what structures in the leaf are involved in conserving water and how the do it. Thanks -Makenzie

  1. Hey Makenzie,

The Palisade layer is the part of the leaf that has the most photosynthesis take place because it is the area of the leaf that absorbs the most light.

  2. Hi Makenzie,
The palisade layer does the most photosynthesis in the leaf mainly because it's at the top of the leaf, closest to the sun. Also, two of the parts of the leaf that are involved in conserving water would be the cuticle and the stomata. The cuticle is really waxy and kind of thick, so it blocks out the water from exiting the leaf. The stomata are those holes that open and close with help from the guard cells. So, when the stoma/guard cells realize that enough water and substances have left the leaf, then they guard cells close the stoma so that nothing gets out.
