Muddiest Point

hi guys!

So I get how to do the genotypic ratio in percentages, but I don't fully understand how to do an actual ratio like 1:1 ! Can someone explain this to me? Thanks!

  1. It's sort of confusing for me if you try to convert percentages to ratios so look at fractions! How I do it is look at the punnet square. If there are 3 squares for blue eyes and 1 square for green eyes, then the ratio of blue eyes to green eye is 3:1 (3 to 1). In fractions it is 75% blue eyes and 25% green eyes. 75% is 3/4 and 25% is 1/4 so you can say that for ratios, you look at the numerators (the top number) of the fraction. If the punnet square had 16 squares, find the percentages and then the fraction of it or just go straight to fractions. Then you can look at the numerators of the fraction and find the ratio. hope I helped! (ALWAYS REDUCE EVERYTHING TO THE SIMPLEST FORM! If the punnet square has 16 squares and the possibility for a trait is 4/16 then it's 1/4 (25%))

  2. A simpler way would be to take the information, let's use 3:1. Change it into words, 3 blue to 1 green. Out of the 4 eye pairs, how many are green? 1/4.
