Scribe 12/7/11

Hey Guys!
Today in class, we didn't do too much, because of the shortened period.
So the first thing we did in class today was get a stamp for our homework from last night, which was UP 51-52. Then, we took a mini quiz on 14.2, which was the section in the book we had to read last night. It was only 5 questions, so it wasn't too hard.
After that, we went over the UP 51-52 homework, which was about genetic disorders.
Genetic Disorders are basically caused by changes in individual genes. Some examples of genetic disorders include Sickle Cell Disease, Cystic Fibrosis, Phenylketonuria, Tay-Sachs disease, Huntington's disease, and Achondroplasia.
In the book in 14.2, it also talks about nondisjunction, which is a mistake that occurs during meiosis, when chromosomes fail to separate, resulting in an abnormal number of chromosomes.

If you Guys still have trouble with this, then you can find some links for genetic disorders on Moodle. You can also find more information in your book in section 14.2!

The last thing we did, was start working on a webquest about Karyotypes and Chromosome Abnmormalities. All the links for this webquest are on moodle, you just have to click on Karyotyping and Chromosomal Abnormalities, which is the first link under Unit 5B.
*Just a reminder that these answers must be either written neatly or typed*

Homework:
-Karyotype Webquest due Friday
-Quiz is tomorrow! (ALL CROSSES)
-For extra practice, do pages UP 53-56!

Thanks for reading:)

Next Scribe will be.. JESSICA:)
