Muddiest Point

Well I'm confused on the pedigrees, I don't understand how you can find the genotype of a person, if you don't know their parents genotypes.

Hope you can help! Thanks!

  1. The way to find the genotype of a person for pedigrees if it doesn't give their parents, is to look at their kids and their partner. For example, if you had an affected person but their partner was normal and their kids were normal except for one, then the genotype of the affected person would have to be ee because in this example the disease is recessive, and its partner's genotype would be Ee because they have a child who is affected, and the only way to have an affected child is if both parents have the recessive gene. But the partner is also normal, so his genotype has to be Ee. I hope this makes sense!
