Muddiest Point

Hi guys,
I am confused on the radial symmetry. Why does a starfish have radial symmetry and not bilateral?

  2. Hey Sean,

Radial Symmetry is when you can split something in half many times. For example, think of it like a round circle. You can cut the circle in many ways therefore, it has "radial symmetry. A starfish has radial symmetry and not bilateral symmetry because you can split a starfish msny times and would still be the same on both sides. It does not have bilateral symmetry because you can split a starfish more than two times. We have bilateral symmetry because we have eyes and if we "split" ourselves in half, it would be the same on both sides.

I hope this helps you understand this better,

  3. Just think of the other side "mirroring" the oppistie side of the starfish!
    hope this also helps!
